Location 1: Pinjore Gardens
Approximately 90 kilometers away from Shimla, Pinjore Gardens, also known as Yadavindra Gardens,
were laid out by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb’s architect, Fidai Khan in the 17th century. Sprawling
over an area of 100 acres, these terraced gardens are famous for an enchanting display of Mughal
architecture and lawns with refreshing fountains. The bewitching beauty of these gardens attracts
a majority of tourists, especially during the Pinjore Heritage Festival. There is a museum located
nearby, displaying the history of Pinjore Gardens. Tourists can also visit Pinjore Gardens on their
way to Shimla from Chandigarh and revel in the serenity amidst greenery. Car itineraries usually do
not include an extended stop here, therefore keep a look out while you pass by this attraction.

Sightseeing in Shimla
Location 1: Kufri
Located 16 kilometers from Shimla, Kufri is bestowed with slopes, which makes it a hub for adventure lovers.
A great place to unwind, Kufri offers panoramic views of the Himalayas. This tiny tinsel town features various
places of interest like Himalayan Nature Park, Chini Bungalow, Kufri Fun World, etc. The highest peak in Kufri -
Mahasu Peak is yet another famous hotspot for tourists. Car services are available till the nearest point to Kufri.
Also, the trek to Mahasu Peak requires a lot of walking, hence it is recommended to wear comfortable shoes. Also,
pony services are available to reach the peak.
Location 2: Shimla Church
Built in 1857, Shimla Church is North India's second oldest church. The impressive church is located on the ridge
and its neo-Gothic architecture with stained-glass windows is worth seeing. The interiors of the temples are adorned
with tinted glass panes and a rich collection of old scriptures. Paintings from the life of Jesus Christ is another
must-see feature. The Pipe Organ in the church, built in the year 1899, is the biggest in the Indian Subcontinent.
Location 3: Scandal Point
Stationed at the junction of the Mall Road and Ridge Road, Scandal Point is a famous landmark marked by the statue of the
Indian freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai. According to the legends, Scandal Point was the same place where then Maharaja of
Patiala eloped with the daughter of British Viceroy. At the time when the incident happened, it was a scandal of the highest
order. And hence the place got its name. Also, the place is known for offering a beautiful view of the mountains.
Location 4: Gaiety Theatre
An architectural landmark on the Shimla Mall Road, Gaiety Theatre, also known as Gaiety Heritage Cultural Complex,
is a 122-year-old Victorian theatre complex and is the oldest Gothic theatre in Asia. The finest example of Victorian-era
architecture, the theatre features an art gallery, museum, multi-purpose hall and amphitheater in addition to the old theatre.
Facades of this Victorian-era theatre often draw a comparison with London’s Albert Hall. There are exhibition halls including art
gallery inside this place. Presently, the heritage buildings host numerous performing arts and cultural programmes in the city.
The theater remains closed on Mondays.
Location 5: Townhall
An iconic British landmark located on the Mall Road of Shimla, Town Hall is a beautiful building, dating back to 1908 and shaped
by Scottish Architect James Ransone. This British-era building, with wooden frames, shingles eaves, slanting slate roof and big glass
windows, is the finest example of Tudor style architecture. During the British era, the town used to house a library with a few public
utility offices in the British-era.
